A quick summary:
April marks the start of Stress Awareness month. This time is used to raise public awareness for both the causes of modern stresses, and the cures for them. Statistics from 2019 found that 74% of people over the age of 18 in the UK have been so stressed that they have either felt unable to cope or been completely overwhelmed (Mental Health Foundation). This past year has been particularly difficult for everyone, and it’s safe to say that higher stress levels have been felt by almost everybody.
Stress poses a threat to our health, both mentally and physically, but it often isn’t taken seriously compared to physical ailments. It is a significant contributor to mental health problems like anxiety and depression. It is also linked to many physical ailments, such as insomnia, digestive problems, heart disease and problems with our immune system.
