Healthy snacks that’ll keep you and your immune system going

A quick summary:

It’s safe to say we all need a little bit of help when it comes to unhealthy snacking! Whether your weakness is crisps, chocolate or sweets, here are some great healthy replacements to keep your unhealthy snacking habits at bay.

Sweet snacks

Banana and nut butter

Exactly as it says on the packet: a banana covered in nut butter. This butter can be peanut, almond or cashew butter; whichever takes your fancy! This snack is realistic for busy bees still working or balancing that manic home-life after lockdown. If you have kids, it’s also very quick and easy for them to make!

Hummus made sweet

Sounds strange, but is surprisingly tasty. Use cocoa powder or chocolate protein powder and a drizzle of honey when making your own hummus at home. It’s also tasty on rye bread!

Savoury (to replace those cravings for crisps!)

Houmous and veg

Probably one of the most popular healthy snacks out there. Use any veg you fancy, such as carrots, celery, cucumber and peppers. Prep a batch of veg if you don’t want to be cutting up veg throughout the day. Red peppers in particular are full of vitamin C and B vitamins, which act as an antioxidant and are important for your metabolism respectively.

Veggie crisps

You can buy these, but it’s much better to make them yourself! Thinly slice vegetables such as parsnips, beetroot, carrots and sweet potato, then dry them with kitchen roll. Cover them all in oil, then season with sea salt, pepper, cayenne pepper and any other spices you like. Lay them on a baking tray in an oven on a medium-high heat for 20 minutes, turning halfway through.

Protein dips

Carrots and hummus are delicious, but can get boring. If you’re fed up with your carrot and hummus snack, upgrade by trying out some new dips. To name a few, avocado hummus, broad bean dip or edamame bean dip are all delicious!

Greek yoghurt

Sounds strange, but bare with us. Make this savoury by stirring through chilli paste, pepper and lemon juice.  This works well with celery, carrot or cucumber sticks; or whatever you normally match up with your hummus!
